With the success so many customers are finding using reviews to make purchasing decisions on just about everything these days, it was only a matter of time before that model spilled over into the real estate world.

Of course, getting those reviews is not always as easy as we would like. It would be great if every customer we worked with would write an honest review on their own, but unfortunately that is almost never the case.

If they find a collection of positive reviews from satisfied clients, those third party recommendations will go a whole lot further towards landing you a new client than any clever sales pitch or sports calendar magnets.

It’s also important to note that people who are searching for reviews are much more likely to use your services than the average person. People are busy, and they don’t have time to do this much research just for fun. So anyone who is actively looking for your reviews is highly likely to be either listing or buying in the very near future.

On the technical side, having a steady stream of reviews coming into various sites where people post them is the type of fresh content that Google loves to display in its search results. That means that those new reviews will make you more likely than your competitors to be found through local real estate searches.

How to Get More Online Reviews

The bottom line when it comes to getting more online reviews is actually pretty simple: you have to ask.

However, there are definitely some tips and tricks for how to do this tactfully in order to get the best results without being too pushy.

The first step that you will want to implement into your regular workflow is to mention the topic of reviews to clients as you are working with them. This will let them know how important reviews are to you and your business, and will create a mental anchor that this topic is significant that you can trigger later.

One great tactic that you can use is to type up a review request that explains how and why to give you a review. You can hand this request to the clients after closing and put it with all of their paperwork.

Another easy way to ask is to use the “PS” in your thank you note to remind them to leave you a review. Since you are probably going to be sending a thank you note to the clients anyways, adding this extra line at the end requires almost no effort and can be extremely effective.

One of the biggest hang-ups for people that intend to write you a review is remembering where exactly they are supposed to go to do so. You can improve your chances of success by making this as easy as possible for them.

Either send the proper links through an email, or buy a domain like JoeSmithReviews.com and forward it to the place you would like them to leave the review. Your clients will surely be more inclined to write a great review if you make it easy for them that way.

Every form of business today is moving towards more and more online platforms, and real estate is no exception. Agent reviews are a relatively new addition to sites the major real estate portals, but your customers are already there.

Putting your best effort into developing your online reviews could position you to expand your reach and build your business as the market trends in that direction.
