The Blogger's Guide to Always Having Something to Write About

Posted by Al Villegas on August 15, 2017 at 1:11 PM

Find me on:

Starting a regular blog to promote your real estate business is an excellent idea for agents in just about every market. However, starting the blog is the easy part. You will quickly discover that coming up with fresh ideas to write about on a consistent basis is way more challenging than you expected when launching your new marketing machine.

To make sure that you don't have any serious lapses in content, you should immediately get into the habit of always having access to a notebook to record good ideas for blog posts. On top of that, you should also plan your blogging schedule out for about a month into the future to make sure that you always know what you are going to be writing about ahead of time.

Of course, the key to all of that is having plenty of good ideas. Once you run through the first handful of ideas in your head, you are going to want to develop regular sources for fresh ones. To help you out with that, we have put together a list of five foolproof sources for great blog ideas.

Real Life Examples

Believe it or not, the most original place for you to stumble across ideas for blog posts is in your day-to-day routine. Over the course of any work day, you are likely going to come across multiple issues or discussions that could be turned into outstanding blog content.

The key to converting those regular interactions into great blog posts is that you have to be looking for them. You also have to make sure that you remember them, so this is where having constant access to your idea notebook comes into play.

If you choose to keep your idea notebook digital, using something like Evernote that has a smartphone app will allow you to record great ideas the minute you have them from just about anywhere.

The Movies & TV Shows You Watch

Everyone loves to kick back and watch a good movie after a hard day's work. We also love getting lost in a great TV series. And you won't believe how often topics that relate to your blog will come up in those forms of entertainment when you start looking for them.

The people you are targeting with your blog content are likely going to be interested in the same movies and TV shows that you are, which means they will respond well to a good idea that involves their favorite characters.

Something as simple as "5 Houses With Garages Big Enough for Dragons" or "Check Out These Listings With Zombie Protection Bunkers" will hit home with anyone who is a fan of Game of Thrones or The Walking Dead.

Monitoring Social Media

One of the simplest ways to come up with great ideas that your audience will respond to is to track what they are talking about on social media.

It takes a little work to monitor the various social platforms, but there is a wealth of information here if you are using them consistently.

Books…Even if You Don't Read Them

Books are one of the most in-depth resources for coming up with killer blog content. Of course, that assumes that you have time to kick back and read them. If you do, you're probably already filling your idea notebook with great quotes and stories.

If you don't have a lot of time to spend reading, you can still get some pretty good ideas by checking out the table of contents of any books that are even loosely related to real estate. If an idea was good enough to get its own chapter in someone else's book, it's probably a pretty good topic for you to riff on for your blog too!

Other Good Real Estate Blogs

Just as you can grab ideas from real estate books, you can also borrow and expand on ideas from other real estate blogs. Build yourself a database of solid blogs and use those to fuel your creativity during your blog post brainstorming sessions.

Becoming a great blogger isn't going to be easy, but by pulling together ideas from a wide range of different sources, you should be able to find a voice that speaks to your target clients in a truly unique way. And once you have established that unique voice, the benefits of blogging are not far behind.
