What You Get for the Money: $250,000 Across the Nation

Posted by Carrington Real Estate Services on December 13, 2015 at 12:05 PM

No matter where you live across the country, $250,000 is still a big chunk of change. However, it can buy you a whole lot more in some areas of the country compared to others.

In order to illustrate the differences in real estate markets across the country, let’s take a look at what that $250,000 can buy you in five different markets that are all very popular locations right now.

The San Diego House

This 4 bedroom, 3 bathroom house located at 2127 Roanoke Street in San Jacinto, CA offers 2,456 square feet of living space sitting on a nice little 0.17 acre lot. It was built in 2007 and contains the open-concept kitchen and living area that is very popular across the country right now.

With features like granite countertops in the kitchen, a luxurious master suite, and a nice little fenced-in yard, there is an awful lot to like here. As we travel around the rest of the country, this will give us a great basis for our comparisons.

The Chicago Condo

This 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom condo at 744 W Cornelia Ave in Chicago’s Lake View area boasts a fantastic location that is just a few blocks from Wrigley Field.

Of course, to get into a location like this for only $250,000 you are definitely going to have to sacrifice something. In this case, that sacrifice is going to be square footage, as this condo is only a little over 1,000 square feet.

Inside, the condo has been completely updated and everything looks to be brand new. The kitchen and bathrooms are fantastic, which makes this a great deal for anyone who loves the idea of living in the city.

The New York City Co-Op

Heading east to New York City, we find the same problem that we had in Chicago on an even larger scale. Even if we head out to Brooklyn, we are still going to be stretching our budget.

This 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom co-op in Brooklyn’s Imperial House neighborhood is very small and doesn’t include many of the updated features we are seeing in other parts of the country. But when you step out onto the terrace overlooking Ocean Parkway you will see exactly why this one is worth the money!

The Atlanta House

So far, we have seen a decent house in San Diego, a small condo in Chicago, and an even smaller co-op in New York City. Moving south to the suburbs of Atlanta is where we find the largest and most impressive home on our list.

This 4 bedroom, 3 bathroom house is located about an hour northwest of Atlanta in Paulding County’s Rosewood Park neighborhood. The house contains a total of 3,156 square feet and was built in 2013, so it definitely includes all of the modern features you are looking for like granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, and a massive owner’s suite.

The Port Saint Lucie House

Heading a bit further south, we can trade some of the luxury of that fabulous Atlanta house for the perfect location in the Florida beach town of Port Saint Lucie. This 4 bedroom, 2.5 bathroom house at 2561 SE Tiger Ave in Port Saint Lucie contains a total of 2,215 square feet.

The home was built in 2004 and includes lots of ceramic tile floors and a great kitchen. But the real selling point here is that it is located less than 20 minutes from the beach!

Any of these homes could be a perfect fit for your lifestyle, but you probably prefer some of these options more than others. Understanding which aspects of each home are most important to you is the secret to getting the best deal on your next real estate purchase no matter what market you are buying in!
